Walnut Date Bread / Pain aux Noix et aux Dattes

4 CommentsBy zaza-cook

This is a wonderful easy and delicious recipe! Thanks to my friend, Kathy, for sharing it.

It’s my first time making a bread with walnuts and dates. My husband and I loved it.

Such a beautiful bread for a party, with cream cheese.

I also love it for breakfast. It’s a really good idea to make for your family or even if you have guests for the weekend! They will be impressed with this wholesome and tasty bread!

Will make again, for sure! Next time, I will add some orange zest or 1/4 teaspoon of Cointreau.

Let cool and wrap overnight, if you want to eat the day after.

Preparation time : 45 minutes    – Cook time : about 1 hour

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 lb (225 g ) dried pited dates, chopped in small pieces
  • 3/4 cup (65 g) walnuts, in small pieces
  • 2 Tablespoons (28 g) butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml)  boiling water
  • 1 cup & 3/4 cup (230 g) plain flour
  • 1/2 cup (110 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup (100 g) cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions :

  1. Mix together dates, butter and boiling water in a medium bowl. Let rest for 15 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 325 degree F (163 degree C).
  3. Then in a big bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking soda and sugar. Add one egg (previously beaten) and mix well. Then add cheddar cheese and walnuts.
  4. Incorporate the mixture butter/dates in 3 or 4 times and mix well.
  5. Pour the dough in a loaf pan, greased and floured. Let cook for 50-60 minutes. (I chose a Pyrex glass loaf pan L 7.8″ x W 3.9″ x H 2.7″. I baked it for 1h15, because he took a long time for the center to firm up).

Enjoy!
