Gâteau au Yaourt – Yogurt Cake

Gâteau au Yaourt - Yogurt Cake

It’s the best yogurt cake that I’ve ever made. What a great idea to add one teaspoon of vanilla extract in this classic French cake, I love the flavor!

This cake is very easy to make and turns out well every time.

I was so surprised when my daughter, who spends a lot of time cooking and eating chocolate cake, also loves this cake.

This cake is amazing for breakfast, and any occasions.

Yogurt Cake.

The result is an incredibly light cake.

Makes one 9-inch cake    Preparation time : 10 minutes   Total time : 45 minutes

Ingredients :

  • 250 milliliters (1 cup) plain yogurt (low fat or whole milk)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 160 grams (3/4 cup plus 1 scant tablespoon) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 80 milliliters vegetable oil
  • 250 grams (2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Confectioners’ powder sugar (optional) . Sprinkling a fine layer on the top, when the cake is cooled –do not sprinkle too much-

Directions :

  1. Heat the oven to 350 degree F. (180 degree C.) and line a round 9-inch cake pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, eggs, sugar, vanilla and oil.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Fold the flour mixture, mixing only until all traces of flour disappear. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
  5. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the top is golden and a tester comes out clean.
  6. Let stand for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.

Pour 8 personnes    Préparation : 10 minutes     Total : 45 minutes

Ingrédients :

  • 250 milillitres de yaourt nature non sucré
  • 2 oeufs

I tried the classic French yogurt cakes for the first time a few years ago…it’s been too long since I’ve made it. Love the “clean” flavor of the yogurt with just a touch of vanilla. Delicious!
